The Bosch Hockenheim Historic is a festival of the senses for spectators – an event of superlatives. The Jim Clark Revival boasts everything that makes the hearts of historic race-car fans beat faster on and around the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg from 21 to 23 April. Everyone is cordially invited to the Hockenheimring stand at the Retro Classics in Stuttgart starting this Thursday, 2 March. The Bosch Hockenheim Historic in Hall 4, Booth A17B features a very special exhibition vehicle: the Serenissima M1 AF – a little taste of the exhibition to come at the Jim Clark Revival in April.
Ten historic racing series, ready and set to go
With the ‘BOSS GP’ (Big Open Single Seaters) series – in which former Formula One cars play the leading role – ahead of the pack, ten different racing series will razzle and dazzle the crowds on the Grand Prix circuit. Former IndyCar and GP2 series cars with ramped-up engines have also been thrown into the mix. The revved-up ten cylinders of the top tier of motorsports vehicles alone make earplugs a definite must-have here. The Canadian-American Challenge Cup (aka CanAm Cup) is no less spectacular itself. When cult cars, such as the McLaren M8 or the Porsche 917, rip down the start-finish line, it almost feels like the grandstands are trembling!
The Lotus Cup Europe, which commemorates two-time Formula 1 world champion Jim Clark who was fatally injured at the Hockenheimring in 1968, is a fixed part of the programme. The superstar of this era was a Lotus pilot. Tradition meets modernity during the Special Touring Car Trophy H&R Cup, where touring cars dating back to before 1990 compete in the Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge. Their premiere at the Bosch Hockenheim Historic celebrates the HRA Classic Formula 3 in which single seaters from 1971 to 1984 get ready to race. Europe’s largest racing series for Alfa Romeo touring cars, the Scuderia Alfa Classico, ensures that the glory days and beautiful models of the Italian automobile industry will not be forgotten. The FIA Lurani Trophy stems back to an idea conceived by Count Johnny Lurani in 1958 to found a Formula class for newcomers and get Italian drivers back behind the wheel of Grand Prix cars.
The historic charm of the paddock and pits
Raceclub Germany’s members only roll out their historic gems on the racetrack for slower-paced demo runs. Traditionally part of the scene, their perfectly tuned vehicles from all epochs are always the main paddock attraction for passing spectators and are bound to get pulses racing. The visitors can literally breathe the racing air – that’s how close they are. After all, is there any other place where spectators can access the pits? Sometimes it even seems as if they’ve been sent back in time, with the teams and their pits sporting retro attire and bales of straw marking the way to the media centre. Nobody can resist the charm of history!
Framework programme with exhibitions, autographs, automobile club area and a party
Of course, the attractive framework programme includes a wide variety of exhibitions such as the first-time special exhibition Scuderia Serenissima, which is bound to be one of the highlights thanks to its rarely seen vehicles. Maserati and Porsche are also showcasing historic racers; the traditional Jim Clark special exhibition in the Congress Pavilion shall of course be another magnet for visitors in the paddock. There’s even a special guided tour this year: ‘In the tracks of Jim Clark’.
Celebrity guests this year include former racing stars such as Ellen Lohr, Michael Bartels, Christian Danner, Jochen Mass and Marco Werner – all of whom are raring to give their autographs! The Automobile Club Area at the Mercedes grandstand will surely be a mecca for all car enthusiasts – regardless of their year of manufacture – as well as the meeting place for clubs, regular round-table groups or interest groups. For the first time, there will also be a sales market for classic and vintage cars for complete vehicles. Even the pit roof’s got a lot going on: the premiere of a historical fair featuring a carousel and games, as well as a big party in the evening, featuring the band Me and the Heat, and culinary delights.
As mentioned above, the Bosch Hockenheim Historic is a festival of the senses with affordable admission: tickets cost ten euros for the event on Friday and individual tickets cost 25 euros for Saturday/Sunday, whereas weekend tickets are priced at 35 euros.
