• Reminiscence of one of the greatest racing drivers of all time: The Bosch Hockenheim Historic from August 27 to 29, 2021.
  • Great variety: Eleven race series offer delights for fans of classic racing
  • Family-friendly: day tickets are available from just 10 euros

With the “Bosch Hockenheim Historic – The Jim Clark Revival,” a true cult event heralds the return to racing in front of spectators at the Hockenheimring. More than 500 participants in their automotive beauties from several eras will make the racing heart of every classic and racing fan beat faster. Just like the memory of one of the greatest car drivers of all times: Jim Clark. Two Formula 1 World Championship titles (1963 and 1965) stand for the Scotsman’s legacy, as do his tragic accident in a Formula 2 race at Hockenheim on April 7, 1968.

Due to the current Corona restrictions, the focus of this year’s event will be on the races on the Grand Prix circuit, but not on an extensive supporting program. Eleven spectacular racing series will revive the magic of bygone racing times at the event. The breathtaking cars of Group C, the Touring Car Classics and the Historic Racecar Association will be on the grid. The other starting field is also top-class with the Historic Formula Vau Europa, the CanAM & Sportscars, the GT Classics, the Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge, Dunlop Gentle Drivers ’65, the Battle of the Dwarfs and the VFV GLPPro. Runs of the association Raceclub Germany round off the unique spectrum.

Spectators allowed on grandstands and in the paddock

And all this will finally be available to see, smell and touch again. This is because spectators are permitted at the Bosch Hockenheim Historic, subject to compliance with a hygiene concept that includes proof of 3G (recovered, vaccinated or tested) and mandatory wearing of masks. Tickets are available both in advance and at the box office.

As always, prices at the Bosch Hockenheim Historic – The Jim Clark Revival are kept extremely family-friendly. Friday tickets start at just 10 euros, day tickets for Saturday and Sunday start at 30 euros, and those who want to experience the entire weekend up close and personal can buy tickets starting at 45 euros. And for those who like it a little more exclusive, there are also VIP tickets starting at 200 euros with appropriate support. Tickets are available from the online ticket store or by calling the hotline at +49(0)6205 950-222. Further information is available at www.hockenheim-historic.de.

ALL RACE SERIES AT A GLANCE

A good 36 years after the last round of the then Sports Car World Championship at Hockenheim, the breathtaking Group C bolides make a comeback at their old venue. Big names such as Stefan Bellof, Manfred Winkelhock, Jochen Mass, Jacky Ickx, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Bob Wollek, Klaus Ludwig, Riccardo Patrese, Derek Bell and Thierry Boutsen were the ones who swept the fans off their feet in their 700-hp Porsches, Lancias, Sauber-Mercedes, Fords and Jaguars. By the way, the later world champions Stuck/Bell in the Porsche 962C celebrated the victory at that time. The Group C Supercup is therefore a real treat for sports car fans.

The same applies to the Touring Car Classics, which have become a pool of the most exciting touring cars of the past 40 years. Regardless of whether it’s the high-tech cars from the ITC’s Class 1 era between 1993 and 1996, the “classic” touring cars of the golden DTM era from 1984 to 1992, the more modern Super Touring Cars (STC) or the legendary cars from the German Racing Championship (DRM) – anyone who loves touring cars will get something for the heart here. Especially since old warriors like Roland Asch, Harald Grohs, Kurt Thiim, Altfrid Heger and Leopold Prinz von Bayern don’t miss the chance to climb into the cockpit of their former work machines from time to time. Which, for most of them, still looks just as sleek as it did decades ago!

We delve even deeper into history with the Historic Racecar Association. This is dedicated to the successful junior formulas of the past century, from Formula Ford to Formula Vau and Super Vau to Formula 3. The Raceclub Germany brings together historic monoposti from the Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, Formula Vau and Formula Opel-Lotus classes. With around 300 members from 14 nations, Historische Formel Vau Europa e.V. upholds the legacy of one of the most successful junior formula series in history. The best-known up-and-comer from the class, which was launched at the time by Ferry Porsche and the then Porsche racing director Huschke von Hanstein, was three-time Formula One world champion Niki Lauda, who died in 2019.

Fans of classic GT and racing sports cars will also get their money’s worth at the Bosch Hockenheim Historic. CanAm & Sportscars provide the stage for sports prototypes from series which, especially in the case of the race cars from the Canadian-American Challenge Cup (CanAm), were characterized by extremely liberal technology. Some of the CanAm rockets produced well over 1000 hp and were equipped with adventurous aerodynamics. When these monsters are let off the leash, the Motodrom shakes.

A feast for the eyes and ears is the Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge, a colorful mix of various racing vehicles built up to 1990 – touring cars, sports cars and prototypes are just as much a part of the event as original racers from the 24 Hours of Le Mans or the US IMSA series. At the GT Classics (GTC), the name says it all – beautiful, fascinating Grand Tourisme cars from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s as well as racing cars from the former Groups 4 and 5 and the ITC ensure exciting races and visual and acoustic delights.

Nothing less is true of the Dunlop Gentle Drivers `65. The race series “A Gentle Drivers Trophy”, founded in 2015, is announced for GT and racing sports cars from the years 1947 to 1965, divided into cars with drum and disc brakes and by engine displacement. The name “Battle of the Dwarfs” is somewhat misleading. What sounds like children’s games are in fact tough duels on the race track with vehicles whose displacement is limited to 1300 cc. The association Kampf der Zwerge e.V. was formed in 2013 from the association of the four series Abarth Coppa Mille, British Car Trophy, NSU TT Trophy and the 1300 Histo Cup. This association currently has 120 members, 86 of whom are permanently enrolled for the 2021 season. This means that the battle of the midgets now represents Germany’s sprint series with the largest number of participants.

Last but not least: the VFV GLPPro. This stands for regularity tests that are open to a wide range of vehicles. Whether touring cars, sports cars or monoposti – virtually anything with four wheels and a motorsport history can take part.
